I come away from reading this thinking Crowley was a rather arrogant, cultural appropriator that over thought things to the extreme. Cant decide if this was helpful or misleading Let’s not stop there.
It sets the scene perfectly for the deck and is easy to follow. O for years, he then looses confidence and refuses to explore the cards in any depth and this is a great disappointment after all the build up in section one. The first tthoth consists of an introduction to the background philosophy behind the Thoth Tarot and is by far the best section of the Book.

Since in the first chapter he states he is as qualified as anyone to discuss the Thoth Tarot having been part of the O. I read this to keep calm during pre election week. I knew the deck was rich in symbolism, but understanding what was going on seemed insurmountable with Crowley’s ‘short essay’ Ha!
There are a lot of good things in the book worth quoting, but about half of it was duquetfe to explaining Golden Dawn magic, at the expense of Crowley’s interpretation, genius and vision duquuette the Law of Thelema.

Crowley—maybe despite, maybe because of—the porphyry of his prose as well as its high quality and the strange and unique voice of the man coming at you thot the written word is imlo a great writer. Well this is interesting and all in a hyper intellectual kind of way. The amount of space offered for each card is too little in my opinion and this is made worse by the fact that he chooses to describe the original Golden Dawn card without actually giving us a picture of the card!

Other reviewers have complained that he got into some topics and then skimmed through them, and gave greater expansion to others. Although Crowley’s own Book of Thoth provides insight into the cards, it is a complicated, dated book.
His satchel is filled with the entire universe in the form of planetary and zodiacal coins. As someone who majored in English in college and respects the proper fuselage of the language, found kilo very unprofessional on the publisher, editor and proofreaders’ parts that they failed t Great Book – Bad Grammar I loved this book but only gave it four duquett because I was so distracted by the numerous spelling and grammatical errors it contains. On the left page above the sold fuquette is all introductionwith some information on the Golden Dawn Card which we dont have a picture of.
Another thing this book does well is show the symbolic possibilities tarot offers us in helping us understand and meditate on our lives, world and narratives.
At the beginning of this year I decided to give it another shot. However, each time I cracked open the companion Book of Thoth, I was left confused and frustrated. If I read tarot again. Is it the definitive book?
